Leaders of the Mekong nations have raised concerns over the development of hydropower along the river system following the collapse of a major dam in Laos in July.

The PM was responding to a question raised about whether the fracture of a dam in Laos’ Attapeu province would affect Laos’ approach to hydropower development.
Though floods from the Lao dam collapse occured two months ago, people are yet to experience the worst of it.
The Mekong River Committee plans to hold an open forum this month on the development of hydropower dams along the river. NGOs plan to boycott the event.
